Trends in Interior Design – New Jersey & New York City Region
Not surprisingly, clothing fashion and home fashion are closely linked – especially when it comes to colors, patterns, and prints. Sometimes its clothing fashion that leads the way, with home fashion taking cues from what’s currently “in” or “hot” in the clothing industry. And sometimes it works the other way around, with creative interior designers acting as the trendsetters in the marketplace. As an interior designer in New Jersey, who likes to blend antique furniture with contemporary accents, I often encourage clients to layer their interior design to allow them to easily interchange accessories that highlight the hot colors of the season.
Here’s a quick breakdown of what I’m seeing as “hot” and “not hot” for current home design:
Hot: Aqua/turquoise, gray + saffron
Used to be Hot: Brown + Blue
Not hot: Chintz (a.k.a. floral pattern) – I expect this to come back at some point relatively soon however
